Éclat Part 106

Avatar eclatcrew | June 13, 2023

While completely obsolete now, those making music in the 90s will we very familiar with Sample CDs. These were collections of samples that a producer could purchase - often for an extremely high price - and use in their own work. While we now live in an age of almost unlimited access to sounds and samples, those old Sample CDs have acquired an almost cult-like following, with producers trying to hunt down the originals online, at flea markets, and in junk stores.

Luckily, there are also some friendly individuals on the internet who've been archiving these sounds for us, like Sample CD Archive on YouTube! While these videos don't seem to contain the entire archive from each CD, they still give us a great taster of sounds for our sampling pleasure.

Today we're going to be working with samples from the Best Service - Albie Donnelly's Killer Horns Sample CD (check it out on Youtube here).

Download the samples from WeTransfer here!

You can use them, mash them, and morph them, plus you can add any other samples, synths or sounds that you like to make a track of ± 2 mins long.

Upload your track to the Google Drive here by 20:30 CEST, and then rejoin the Zoom call at 21:00 for the listening session to check out what everyone's made!

If you're curious, you can find more Sample CDs at The Internet Archive.

Here's what we made!
